Introducing the “Artisan Series,” a trio of hat designs by local artists who live, play and create one-of-a-kind art on 1A.
We carefully selected three artists who represent unique mediums; an interior designer, painter, and photographer. They’re also runners, surfers, and people who love to play on the shoreline. It’s this perfect cross-section of beauty and play that exemplifies what the 1A brand represents.
Each hat is signed and numbered by the artist, so you know you’re acquiring something very special. We hope you’ll support the artists - and show your passion for the 1A coastline - by wearing one of their hats.
Sophia LeBlanc
Sophia is one of our featured artists, showcasing her creative flair and love for earthy tones, as distinctly evident in her personalized 1A hat design. This Seacoast artistic entrepreneur founded Cordelia Blue, an interior design firm that gets its inspiration from the ocean.
Having grown up in a family teeming with creative souls, Sophia is forever compelled to decorate any and all surfaces – Including the homeowner. Not only will she design, paint, and outfit your living space, she loves creating one-of-a-kind apparel. As she says, “Clothing is wearable art.” We unapologetically agree at 1A.
When asked how she plays on 1A, Sophia was quick to point out that she was born in The Sunshine State, instilling a lifelong love of the beach and sand in her toes. She never gets enough surfing, beachcombing, evening moon gazing, and seashell exploration on any number of beaches dotting the 1A shoreline. We knew Sophia was the perfect fit to design a custom hat when she beamed about her moments on the beach.

Kyle Nelson
Originally from Clearwater, Florida, moved to Maine in 2020 with his now wife who is a Maine native. Kyle got into art as a teenager painting designs for he and his friends surfboards. His hobbies are all over the place including hiking, surfing, camping, furniture restoration, and working on his tiny house where he currently resides with his family of 3. Many of his artworks are curated in series based on his current interest or theme. Mainly painting abstract portraits of subjects that are created in his mind. Come see Kyles artwork located at the Hotel Nevada on Long Sands Beach in York, Maine or swing by Stones Throw to meet him in person while he makes you a tasty cocktail.
When asked about the inspiration for his hat design, Kyle drew upon his family's love for the outdoors and neutral colors often found in landscapes.
Sarah Bateman
While most of us are still sound asleep on the Seacoast, Sarah is rolling out of her driveway in the morning darkness and heading out to the coast in anticipation of what the sunrise will bring.
While a telecomm executive from 9 to 5, she pursues her creative talents capturing breathtaking sunrise photos of the 1A coastline. Many know of her work as "Flamewave", now simply Sarah Bateman Photography.
Ask Sarah what she loves about 1A and she'll quickly tell you that the beaches are different every day. With each sunrise she finds a new object, nook, cranny, marine life, fauna, or fluara to remind us how lucky we are to live and play here.
After a quick look at Sarah's hat design, it's no surprise that her creative inspiration comes from the name "Flamewave" - the art of capturing the sun's rays illuminating a wave. Her choice of orange, gold, scarlet and blue truly reflect her passion for a 1A sunrise.
